It is with real regret that I saw fit to resign as Chief Executive Officer of The Mauritius Turf Club on Friday 5th March 2021. My letter of resignation was sent to the President of the Mauritius Turf Club at 16:09 on Friday 5th March 2021 and I quote from the letter as follows.
“I thought long and hard before giving my notice to resign at 16:00 on the day of the AGM. I have however decided to do this because I don’t want the new Board of Administrators, and in particular the new President, to believe that I have resigned because of the result of the election. I wanted it to be absolutely clear that I have decided to resign irrespective of the outcome of the election. I have also decided to resign irrespective of what transpires at the AGM.”
The reason given for my resignation was that I do not see any reasonable prospect of being able to make a meaningful contribution to the MTC over the remaining 7 months of my employment contract.
I came to Mauritius full of enthusiasm on being able to leave a legacy of positive change. Throughout my stay in Mauritius, I have forced myself to hold onto this belief but due to circumstances that I believe to be beyond my control, I am now of the opinion that this is not going to be possible in the short period of time that I have left.
I have indicated to the Board of Administrators that I have decided to give notice of my intention to terminate my employment contract with the MTC at the end of June 2021. The period from now until then should be seen as the 4 months’ notice that I am required to give in terms of my employment contract. I also indicated that I thought long and hard about terminating my contract a couple of months earlier than when it officially expires in mid-October 2021 but after due consideration, I felt that it is in the best interests of the club and myself that I hand in my resignation immediately.
I have given the Board of Administrators my absolute commitment that I will give my 100% to the MTC over the remainder of my employment contract.
I will always be indebted to the Mauritius Turf Club for having given me an opportunity of a lifetime. I have thoroughly enjoyed my stay in Mauritius and have met some wonderful people who will be my friends forever.
